1. It has been a busy, on edge week in Kansas with multiple rounds of severe weather. Yesterday, severe thunderstorms brought tornadoes Westmoreland, in northeast Kansas, causing damage and one confirmed death. A tornado was also confirmed on the ground in Douglas County northeast of Topeka. Tornado warnings were issued for parts of Harvey and Cowley counties when radar indicated rotation. The storms moved through Sedgwick, Sumner, Harper, Butler and Cowley counties with radar indicating quarter to half-dollar sized hail. Hail in the Wichita area was reported to be pea-to-dime size. Another round of severe storms is possible this afternoon.
2. The hush money trial of former President Donald Trump was costly yesterday as Trump was held in contempt of court, for a total of $9,000 – $1,000 for each post that violated the gag order. The judge ordered him to take them down and told Trump that he faces jail time if he does it again.
3. It could be one step closer to legalizing the sale of marijuana here in Kansas. Yesterday it was announced that The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will move to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug. A move that would have ripple effect on business and the legal system across the country.
4. When it comes to cancer, early detection is the key. Now, according to recommendations from a national advisory panel, Breast cancer screenings should begin at age 40 for women, down from 50.
5. and Japan is taking away a mountain due to a mountain of trash. The town of Kawaguchiko is putting up a black vinyl screen to block the view Mt. Fuji, it’s tallest mountain at one scenic photo spot. Huge crowds gather at this iconic spot to get a picture of a Lawson convenience store with Mt. Fuji in the background. The problem is visitors are not only leaving behind piles of garbage, but they are also blocking the entrance to a local dental clinic, some even climbing on the roof to get that picture. A couple of things…..1.) THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS and 2.) Can you blame Godzilla, maybe he’s just tired of the stupid people.
