Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced on Tuesday that the company will invest $1.7 billion in Indonesia over the next four years, marking its largest investment in the country since its establishment there 29 years ago, as reported by AP.

The investment will focus on developing new cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure, reflecting Microsoft’s commitment to expanding its presence in Southeast Asia. Nadella emphasized the transformative potential of AI technology, stating that it is reshaping lives and work across the globe, including in Indonesia.

This investment aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to position itself as a leader in applying artificial intelligence to enhance workplace productivity. It includes plans for AI training for 840,000 individuals and support for Indonesia’s growing community of tech developers.

Recognizing Indonesia as a key market with a thriving developer community, Microsoft aims to foster innovation and economic growth in the region. The company’s investment underscores the significant role that AI is expected to play in Southeast Asia’s economic landscape, with Indonesia poised to capture a substantial portion of the projected $1 trillion contribution to the region’s GDP by 2030.
