Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, 85, was admitted to a clinic in Lima on Sunday and will undergo surgery for a probable tumor at the base of his tongue, as reported by his daughter Keiko Fujimori, Los Tiempos reported.

Fujimori, who was released from prison late last year due to a humanitarian pardon received in 2017, has a history of medical treatment for oral lesions and has undergone recurrent medical care for the same reason.

His medical records played a significant role in the decision by former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to grant him the pardon before serving his full 25-year sentence for crimes against humanity.

Keiko Fujimori, also the leader of the Fuerza Popular party, shared on her social media account that her father was admitted to the Delgado Clinic in Lima for surgery related to his tongue lesion.

The surgery aims to conduct a biopsy under general anesthesia to confirm the nature of the condition, with results expected to take several days. Fujimori’s family remains hopeful for his recovery and appreciates the support and prayers from well-wishers.

Recently, Fujimori has been seen in Lima streets accompanied by caregivers, responding positively to greetings from supporters. He has also launched a YouTube channel where he revisits his tenure in office, addressing recent legal proceedings and urging his followers not to be swayed by his “enemies.”
