The French actor Gérard Depardieu was arrested in Paris on charges of sexual assault against him, and he is currently at a police station being questioned, BFMTV reports. Following the interrogation, he may be placed under arrest.

The actor is accused of sexual assault by two women. According to their statements, the incidents occurred during the filming of two movies: in 2014 on the set of “Magicien et les Siamois” (Magician and the Siamese, 2015), and in 2021 during the filming of “Les Volets verts” (The Green Shutters, 2022). Gérard Depardieu denies the accusations.

In total, more than a dozen women have accused Depardieu of violence and sexual harassment at different times. In January, the Paris prosecutor’s office closed an investigation into Depardieu regarding harassment allegations made by actress Élén Darra, who claimed that the actor had harassed her on the set of the film “Disco” in 2007.

In November of last year, a film based on women’s testimonies about the actor was aired on the France 2 channel. Following this, the state-owned broadcasting company France Télévisions decided to stop showing films featuring him.

Against the backdrop of these allegations, around 50 colleagues of Depardieu wrote a letter in support of him. Among them are actor Pierre Richard, model and former First Lady Carla Bruni, actors Vincent Perez and Benoît Poelvoorde, director Bertrand Blier, actresses Charlotte Rampling, Carole Bouquet, Nathalie Baye, Emmanuelle Seigner, writer Boualem Sansal, and others.
