An eruption of Mount Ibu occurred in Indonesia. Experts estimated the ash columns ejected by the volcano to a height of over 4800 meters above sea level. Corresponding safety measures have been taken, and authorities have started distributing protective masks to residents to protect against potential impacts of volcanic ash, ANTARA reports.

Mount Ibu, located in the North Maluku province, ejected ash columns reaching approximately 3500 meters from the summit. Observers at the monitoring post recorded that the ash was moving westward. The eruption lasted for over three minutes.

The regional disaster mitigation agency has already taken steps to assist the local population. Masks are being distributed to residents of 16 villages affected by the volcano eruption, and teams are dispatched to the area to assess the condition of people in the region.

Residents of the Ibu area and adjacent areas are advised not to approach the volcano closer than 2 km. They are also recommended to have nose, mouth, and eye protection handy in case of ash rain.

Safety measures are aimed at minimizing the potential consequences of the volcano eruption for the health and safety of the local population and tourists.
