US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will embark on a visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday, April 29, according to a statement from State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. During the visit, he will discuss current efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, which will facilitate the release of hostages, as well as Hamas’ reluctance to achieve a ceasefire.

He will discuss the recent increase in humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza and emphasize the importance of further increasing it.

“The Secretary of State will also emphasize the importance of preventing the spread of conflict and discuss current efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and security in the region, including through the creation of an independent Palestinian state with security guarantees for Israel,” the statement said.

Blinken will also participate in a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council at the ministerial level to enhance coordination on regional security issues.
