On June 9th, Slovenia will hold a referendum on the legalization of euthanasia, marijuana cultivation, and the introduction of preferential voting in national elections. The referendum will take place simultaneously with the elections for Members of the European Parliament, as reported by The Slovenia Times.

The largest party in the ruling coalition, the Freedom Movement, has proposed the idea of holding referendums on three issues and combining them with the European Parliament elections to increase voter turnout.

Meanwhile, the question regarding marijuana has evolved significantly over time. Initially, the proposal was to address the legalization of cultivation, processing, sale, and use of marijuana for medical purposes. However, now voters will face two separate questions: support for the cultivation and processing of hemp for medical purposes, as well as “cultivation and storage of hemp for limited personal use.”

The questions changed after parliament lawyers reminded the referendum initiators that the sale and use of hemp for medical purposes are already allowed, but cultivation is not.
