Hume Highway horror: Two men left fighting for life after being struck by a Toyota HiLux while trying to cross a busy highway

Two young men have been left fighting for life in hospital after they were struck by a Toyota HiLux while trying to cross a busy highway. 

The pair, both aged in their 20s, were captured on CCTV footage crossing the Hume Highway at Yagoona, in Sydney's west, at about 4am on Friday. 

They narrowly avoided being hit by a white van just seconds before they were struck by the Toyota HiLux on a pedestrian crossing. 

The traffic lights had been green for oncoming traffic at the time.

The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota HiLux (pictured) was transported to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing

The ute, which had been travelling 60km/hour, sustained serious damage, including a smashed windscreen, a crumpled bonnet and dented bullbar (pictured)

The men sustained serious head and leg injuries with one man rushed to St George Hospital while the other was taken to Liverpool Hospital. 

Both were in a critical condition. 

The 59-year-old driver of the Toyota HiLux was transported to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. 

The ute, which had been travelling 60km/hour, sustained serious damage, including a smashed windscreen, a crumpled bonnet and dented bullbar. 

No charges are yet to be laid and the investigation is ongoing.
