How Bo Nix and his wife reacted to Broncos’ pick in 2024 NFL Draft

It’s a moment new Broncos quarterback Bo Nix and his loved ones will cherish forever.

With the Broncos on the clock with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday, Denver brass phoned Nix, the former Oregon Ducks quarterback, as he waited to hear his name called from home, where he was joined by wife, Izzy, and their family.

In footage shared on X by the Oregon Football account, the 24-year-old Nix is seen on a couch as his phone rings, briefly chatting with Broncos coach Sean Payton before the team hands in the pick.

Moments later, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is heard announcing the quarterback’s name on TV while at the draft in Detroit, as Nix’s inner circle erupted with cheers and applause.

Izzy, who wed Nix in July 2022, then hugged her husband during the heartfelt moment.

The Broncos had been in the market for a franchise quarterback following the release of Russell Wilson in March after just two seasons.

Denver acquired quarterback Zach Wilson in a trade with the Jets this week, three years after Gang Green selected him with the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

In the days before the draft, NFL insider Albert Breer reported the Broncos had been “quietly” looking into Nix.

Nix, who began his collegiate career at Auburn in 2019 before transferring to Oregon ahead of the 2022 season, threw for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2023.

He was the sixth quarterback taken in the first round Thursday, following Caleb Williams (No. 1 to the Bears), Jayden Daniels (No. 2 to the Commanders), Drake Maye (No. 3 to the Patriots), Michael Penix Jr. (No. 9 to the Falcons) and J.J. McCarthy (No. 10 to the Vikings).

Izzy, a former Auburn cheerleader, penned a sweet message to Nix in January as they awaited their “next adventure.”

“I cannot imagine our story without these (not 1, but 2!!!) years in Oregon, along with the incredible friends, teammates, and coaches who came along with it. Give God a yes when He calls, and He will do immeasurably more than you can ask, think, or imagine. Here’s to our next adventure, @bonix10” she wrote on Instagram at the time.

Nix later replied in the comments: “Don’t know what I would do without you. Love you more than anything.”
