Last year, over 224,000 meals were provided to homeless individuals in Porto by fifteen voluntary organizations, totaling an investment of 1.17 million euros, according to The Portugal News

This effort was part of the Axis 6 initiative within NPISA – the Homeless Planning and Intervention Center. 

These organizations, constituting part of the city’s 63-entity municipal support network for the homeless, dedicated approximately 46,000 volunteers who collectively contributed 16,385 hours on rounds and 1,392 trips. Additionally, 4,415 volunteers were mobilized, with 93 of them being hired full-time. 

The cost per meal increased to 5.20 euros from 4.90 euros in 2022. Alongside these efforts, three solidarity restaurants in Porto, funded by the municipality, served 170,000 meals, with an investment exceeding 760,000 euros. Altogether, 394,184 meals were served to the homeless in Porto, amounting to an investment surpassing 1.9 million euros.
