Many homeowners are debating whether or not they should go ahead with revamping their backyards amid a global financial pinch.

However, a landscaping expert has revealed that the project can be done without splashing too much money.

Jose Martinez brings his deep-rooted passion for gardening and landscaping to CGL Landscaping in Gilbert, Arizona.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, he revealed creative ways to upgrade backyards on a budget.

REPURPOSE WITH FLAIR

Martinez said online marketplaces and thrift stores can be great places to find “hidden treasures” that will enhance your outdoor space.

“That old wooden ladder? It could be a charming vertical garden,” he said.

“Those mismatched chairs? A cozy seating nook with a lick of paint.

“Creativity knows no bounds when repurposing items on a budget.”

“Don’t underestimate the allure of thrifted treasures,” he added.

“From quirky garden gnomes to vintage lanterns, thrift stores are veritable gold mines for unique décor pieces that add character to your outdoor space.

“Embrace the thrill of the hunt and unearth gems that reflect your personal style—all at budget-friendly prices.”

DIY DECOR

Martinez gushed about the “delight” of unleashing your inner artist with decor tailored to your taste.

He shared several ways DIY-savvy homeowners can cut the cost of accessories and furnishings.

Pallets are the unsung heroes of budget-friendly DIY projects.

“Transform ordinary rocks into charming garden markers, paint terra cotta pots with vibrant hues, or create personalized signage using reclaimed wood,” he said.

“Not only do DIY projects save you money, but they also infuse your space with personality and charm.

“Pallets are the unsung heroes of budget-friendly DIY projects,” he added.

“Snag a few from a local store or ask around—often, they’re free.

“With minimal effort, you can craft pallet furniture, vertical planters, or even a makeshift deck.

“A splash of paint can elevate their aesthetic appeal, transforming your space into a rustic retreat.”

GREEN SAVINGS

“Nurture your green thumb by growing your own herbs, vegetables, or flowers,” Martinez said.

“Not only does gardening offer therapeutic benefits, but it also saves you money on groceries and enhances your outdoor ambiance.

“Utilize inexpensive containers, repurposed materials, or create raised beds using reclaimed wood for a sustainable touch.”

The advice comes after gardening expert Fiona Jenkins revealed herbs such as chives, mint, and rosemary are among the easiest foods for beginners to grow.

She said other easy-growers include tomatoes, carrots, potatoes and strawberries.

How to make your backyard a little paradise

Houna Bech is an interior designer and founder of the style blog With Houna.

She revealed to The U.S. Sun five tips for transforming a drab outdoor space into a “sensory-rich little paradise.”

  1. Embrace nature

“Use your landscaping, trees, flowers, and organic environment as your muse,” she said.

2. Bring the inside out

“Repeat color palettes, textures, and materials so the transition between indoors and out is seamless,” she said.

3. Create zones for specific purposes

“I might design a luxurious cabana with plush loungers and vanities for alfresco makeup sessions with my girlfriends,” she said.

4. Prioritize comfort

“I'm talking cloud-like sectionals, upholstered daybeds, and oversized weather-resistant poufs you can really envelop yourself in,” she said.

5. Get creative

“Finally, turn your entire outdoor area into an artistic installation,” Bech said.

PERFECT AMBIANCE

Martinez said lighting is important for setting the mood of your “outdoor sanctuary.”

“Harness the power of inexpensive string lights, solar-powered lanterns, or DIY mason jar luminaries to cast a warm glow without burning a hole in your wallet,” he said.

“For an enchanting touch, weave fairy lights through foliage or hang them overhead for a magical ambiance.”

A pack of two decorative solar-powered lanterns costs $21.98 at Walmart.

One customer said their style “looks like artwork” as they gushed about their beauty, while another raved that they “look expensive” and are great year long.

Outdoor string lights can also be found at the store for $5.97.

“Elevate your outdoor comfort game with budget-friendly textiles and cushions,” Martinez continued.

“Hit up discount stores or clearance sections for affordable outdoor rugs, cushions, and throws.

“Layer textures, patterns, and colors to create a cozy sanctuary where you can unwind and recharge without breaking the bank.
