BABY names are totally subjective - and what one person likes isn't necessarily going to be loved by someone else.

While many opt to choose a moniker with a special meaning, others may choose to name their little one after something more unusual, such as their favourite film character or actress.

But one woman has told how her neighbour took things a step further...and decided to name her baby after her favourite animal.

In a thread shared to Reddit, the woman explained how the neighbour, who is eight months pregnant, was deciding on a name for her unborn daughter.

"For a little context she's obsessed with everything lionesses, and I mean lionesses like female lions, not like the soccer team," she continued.

"She has like 3 tattoos of a lioness, she has a car sticker with a lioness, etc."

She continued: "Of course there's the logical ones like Leonie, Leona, etc. But she deada** suggested straight up Lioness as a name.

It wasn't long before the post garnered quite the response, with many eager to share their own views on the name in question.

"Poor kid," wrote one.

"Ariel, meaning 'Lion of God,' was RIGHT THERE. So was Lea, a feminine form of Leo. Heck, name her Kiara, after Simba’s daughter from The Lion King II!!"

A second commented: "Leona literally means lioness."

"She should be friends with the woman who wants to name her baby Nala!" joked a third.

Meanwhile, a fourth pointed out: "I have a favourite lioness at my local zoo named Mandessa.

"I’ve joked about naming the next cat after her but wouldn’t do it to a child and even naming a kid after my favourite lioness would be such a step up from naming a child lioness."

A further added: "There's so many nice names she could use that mean some variation of lion."

And one more chimed in: "She is 100% a Leo!"
