Nearsightedness Reaching Epidemic Levels

The two main factors identified as leading to increased myopia are increased reading and other activities that require focusing on an object close to one’s eyes and a reduction in time spent outdoors.
Met a Swiss ophthalmologist in Thailand about 15 years ago who told me the same thing. He said part of the problem was classrooms, that the ideal classroom would allow kids to go from focusing on their desktops to focusing on a blackboard or whatever 7m away, and he talked about the need for kids to have exposure to sunlight and the brighter light they’re exposed to outdoors.
